Style Arc Trio (Fay, Nina & Ann)
I bought this gorgeous printed jersey recently at Spotlight. The colours are so vibrant, and I had the Style Arc Fay Skirt in mind, as it is such a simple pattern...perfect to let the fabric shine. The skirt is self lined, which makes it much less clingy or revealing than a single layer would be and it has an elastic waist. This is my third version of the Fay Skirt. You can see the first one here and the second here.
I agonised over the print placement in this skirt. In fact, the fabric lay spread on my cutting table for several days while I dithered over the best area of the print to feature on the skirt.
I think it turned out alright in the end. I am wearing it here with my latest Style Arc Nina Cardigan in a black merino knit from The Fabric Store Online. This is my fourth Nina Cardigan and so it goes without saying that I love this pattern.
The white top is another Style Arc pattern... the Ann T-Top which I previously blogged here. I am a little disappointed with this outfit after seeing these photos. The top is far too baggy and long. A shorter, more fitted top would have looked so much better with this skirt. Does anyone else find that photos reveal far more than just looking in the mirror?
Happy Sewing

you do so well with the Style Arc patterns, all these pieces look great. And yes I agree, the photos reveal a lot :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Beth. Style Arc patterns just seem to suit my body shape, that's why they usually work out well for me. Not all pattern companies suit all bodies, so its great when you find one that works for you.
DeleteWow! I'm a first-time visitor (through "Diary of a Sewing Fanatic"} and I have to say that your work is stunning! What fun you must have had creating that beauty!
ReplyDeleteWelcome and thank you Patty O Club for your lovely comment. So glad you are enjoying my blog.
DeleteYes, I definitely notice things in a photo that I don't notice in the mirror. Sadly it's often too late to do anything about them.
ReplyDeleteLove that print too - you often seem to come up trumps at Spotlight.
Yes it is often too late to do anything about the problem, but I guess the photos can be used as a learning tool for future makes. I bought this gorgeous print from your Spotlight at Nowra only recently. Sometimes I do get lucky.
DeleteSadly I often notice things in photos that I don't notice when I look directly at the garment. It's useful to take photos to check on things but who has time for that? I really like the outfit too. I can never find fabric I like at Spotlight as it's too busy. I just stick to Knitwit unless I'm really desperate!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue. I do get a little overwhelmed at Spotlight too. So much fabric and it's often very untidy and you have to dig through bolts of fabric to see the ones hiding underneath. I was very surprised at how small the Knitwit store was, when I visited it last year. Their online store seems huge.
DeleteThe skirt is so vibrant! The colour is lovely. The cardigan in merino will be lovely and warm and drape well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea. Nothing like some vibrant colour to brighten up winter. The merino cardigan is surprisingly warm, considering the fabric is not very thick, and has been a very welcome addition to my wardrobe.
DeleteI think you are being too hard on yourself - your whole outfit is very flattering - I think sometimes a longer length top is more flattering especially with a long cardigan - your top looks fine!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Prue. You are too kind.
DeleteIts a very striking skirt - it lifts your classic cardigan and white top. I think you have the height to wear prints like this. Yes, photos often reveal things to me, but I think with the longline cardigan that most of the sins of the t-shirt are forgiveable.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah Liz. I thought the black and white on top would help balance out the vibrant print.
DeleteI think this outfit looks great but I agree that clothes look quite different in photos from how they look in the mirror. I was quite surprised when I took part in Me Made May. Can you imagine what would happen if we tried photographing RTW clothes before we bought them to see if they looked good?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words Rosemary. I like your idea of photographing RTW clothes before buying. It would probably save a lot of unfortunate purchases.
DeleteYou look great in these vibrant colors and I like the outfit pulled together like this. What I've been doing recently is simply tucking my shirts in, and that has seemed to help with what you were maybe feeling a little here. Though I think yours looks fine. And yes! It is always interesting to see what the photos reveal versus what one thinks the mirror is saying. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa. I have worn this skirt since, with a closer fitting top and it did look a lot better. Photos can be a very useful tool in assessing what looks good or not.
